Welcome to MRun!

We are so excited to meet you. MRun welcomes all athletes, regardless of speed or ability level. If you're a runner or would like to start running, MRun is the perfect club for you. All members of MRun have one thing in common: they love to run! (Unless you're into field events, in which that case, that's cool too!) If you'd like to join the club, feel free to fill out this interest form that will notify the co-presidents and give you instructions on how to join the team.

What parts of MRun are mandatory?

None of it! Absolutely no MRun events are mandatory, including daily practice, workouts, and meets. Some members only come to daily practice and never do workouts or meets, while others can only come a few days per week because of class time conflicts, and there are those that fair warm weather, only coming in the fall or spring. The most important thing to remember about MRun is to do whatever you want in the club, whether that's relieving stress with a casual daily run or training to compete and set new PRs!

How Do I Officially Join MRun?

  1. Fill out the interest form. The co-presidents will put you on our email list and get back to you with more information on joining the club. While awaiting a response from the co-presidents, you may attend initial practices to see if you'd like to become an official member. Check the above section on "Where and When do we meet?" for information on practice locations and times. Please note that you may only attend outdoor practices before being added to the roster; you cannot attend social events, indoor track workouts, or races if you are not a member.
  2. Pay dues & fill out the member form. Once you are on the email list, you should be getting a weekly email from MRun. Usually near the bottom of our weekly email is a link to our office hours spreadsheet. On there, you will see the locations and times of our office hours (office hours are open meetings where a board member will be present to handle club business with you; you are free to show up unannounced). You must attend an office hours session or one of our bi-annual mass meetings to pay dues and fill out the member form. Paying dues means to pay your way into the club; MRun is the most affordable club sport at the University of Michigan, but the price of dues does vary year to year, so please look at the mass meeting slides below, read our emails, or contact our co-presidents to get the correct information on cost (historically, dues have been around $30-40). Dues must be paid every semester you choose to participate. If you are having trouble locating the office hours spreadsheet, need help understanding our office hours schedule, want to know the price of dues, or are confused in any other way, be sure to contact our co-presidents.
  3. Complete the Participation Agreement. This will be sent by email after paying dues and filling out the member form. Make sure to fill out all of the information accurately, especially your address (many people type it out incorrectly) and email (use your UMich email only). FYI, you will need a photo of your health insurance card. Once your Participation Agreement (PA) is approved, you will be placed on our roster and are then able to attend all practices, meets, & more!

Does MRun run all year long?

Yes! MRun meets all year long, even throughout the entire winter. Some runners may be in town during the summer as well.

Can I Join Late?

Yes! There is no deadline to join the club.

Are there sprinters or field event competitors in MRun?

Yes! MRun's group of sprinters and field event competitors is highly competitive and growing. If you competed in high school track and field, this is the perfect opportunity to continue your track and field career and even compete against various varsity teams in addition to club teams. If you are new to track and field and hoping to get involved, every level of competition is available and we would love to have you join. There are no tryouts and we encourage all types of runners, new and old.

How many races do we compete in?

In the Fall Semester, there are usually around 5-6 Cross-Country Meets that we attend. In The Winter Semester, there are usually around 5-9 Track & Field Meets that we attend.

How Much Does MRun Cost?

MRun is the most affordable club sport on campus. Now, the price of MRun depends on how many races you attend, how much merchandise you purchase, etc. Many costs are subsidized by donors and club sports. Note that these costs vary a lot and are subject to change. Here are some estimates for the cost(s) of MRun:

  • Joining the club (paying dues): Around $30-40 per semester of participation.
  • Nearby Races (1 day and driving personal vehicles): Around $0-10 per race.
  • Overnight Races (2+ days, overnight stay in a hotel, and driving university vans): Around $10-40 per race.
  • Social Events: As of the 2024-2025 academic year, social events are free. Previously, they were around $0-10 each.
  • Merchandise: Check out our SWAG page.

I'm afraid I'll feel left out because everyone in MRun already knows each other!

New people come to run all the time throughout the year. The club is very welcoming and all MRunners enjoy meeting new people and running with them. Coming out in the fall and/or at the beginning of the school year especially has the advantage of the presence of tons of other new runners to meet and become friends with. Better yet, you can attend MRun Camp to meet new people before the year even starts!

Where Can I Ask For More Information?

You can always visit our Contact page and email the respective board member(s) for any questions you may have. MRun also hosts a bi-annual mass meeting shortly after Fall Fest and Winter Fest. Here, you can sign up for your first meet, buy swag, become a member, and meet other runners/jumpers/throwers! If you need details about attending, be sure to contact our co-presidents. Until then, feel free to reach out to us for any questions you have!
